At the office of Angelic Medi Spa, we’re here to help you care for your skin and protect it from sun damage and cancers such as melanoma.
Melanoma is a serious, but treatable form of skin cancer. However, the goal is to prevent it. According to the American Dermatology Association (ADA), the use of tanning beds and high exposure to direct sunlight are the most common causes of melanoma. In addition, if you have a family history of melanoma, or any cancers, make sure to tell your doctor about it.
There are a number of precautions you can take to protect your skin from the dangers of the sun and hopefully avoid a skin cancer diagnosis. The most important form of protection is to wear sunscreen every day, and especially on days when you’re outside at the beach, or in direct sunlight for extended periods. Don’t forget to protect your scalp as well by wearing a hat when outside.
You should also be sure to schedule an annual skin check. At this visit, your dermatologist will conduct a full body scan to ensure your skin is healthy and that there are no signs of skin cancer. You can also monitor your skin regularly at home by checking for any skin changes like new moles or variations in any moles you may already have on your body. Pay closest attention to your torso, lower legs, head and neck, as these are the areas most prone to melanoma, according to the ADA.
If you notice anything that concerns you, schedule an appointment with us right away. Early detection is very important for the best results. With any cancer diagnosis, your doctor will discuss the best treatment option for you and make sure you get the care you need.
